soap. It smelled like lilacs.

He was gay, but not that gay.

Besides, lilac soap was expensive.

Stella had taken him to the bank, helped him open his own savings

account. She insisted he deposit ten percent of his paycheck every

week. It was a struggle to do so. After he paid for his room, bought

his personal items, and bus pass to get back and forth to work, Sasha

wasn’t left with much.

Still, he did as Stella advised him. He had two hundred twenty

dollars and thirty-seven cents saved so far. It made him feel

accomplished. Sasha had never had a savings before, and it gave him

a slight peace of mind knowing that he had money to fall back on in

case he ever desperately needed it.

Stella sure was a smart gal.

She also taught him how to budget his money, clip coupons, and

thrifty little shortcuts to save him money. Stella was a plethora of

information when it came to living on little income. She had a

substantial savings with the money from the insurance company and

Harvey’s pension, but she still lived like she only had a few dollars to

spare. Sasha remembered every lesson she had taught him, refusing to

live on the streets again.

As he lay there trying to sleep, he felt guilty for running out on

Alan, but the man’s anger triggered the memory of being kicked out,

something Sasha feared to face again. Shock was an understatement

when his mate approached his table, spoke softly to him, and held his

hand out. Sasha had been leery to accept his kindness. Alan seemed to

genuinely care, so maybe he had been rash to jump to the conclusion

that Alan would reject him again.

Well, the big oaf knew where he worked now. If Alan wanted

Sasha then his mate would come to him.

Sasha turned on his side and prayed that Alan wanted him.
